Participants honored for walking across Tennessee

JACKSON, Tenn.-For the past six weeks, West Tennesseans have walked across Tennessee. Well, not actually, but they have have tried to walk or run that distance as part of a campaign to get Tennesseans physically active.

Teams of four competed to see who could log the most miles walking, jogging or doing other physical activities.
Groups who participated in the challenge were honored Thursday night in the categories of under 500 miles or 500 miles and over.

After six weeks of walking, the teams combined have logged more than 24,000 miles.

“Walking is something that most everybody can do, even if they need to start really slow. They can build up and so that’s the purpose of this program.. is to encourage people to be more physically active,” said Amy Elizer, program coordinator.

The teams reported sleeping better, more energy and weight loss during the six-week program.
By the way, Tennessee stretches about 440-miles from east to west.
