Church event brings downtown community together

JACKSON, Tenn.— A local church held a summer party. We tell you how the party got started.

A summer block party was held here in the Hub city and was hosted by the First Methodist Church located in downtown Jackson.

Despite the rain, the party went on with the event moving inside of the church.

Church member, Scott Murray appreciates everyone who volunteered to help make this event a successful one.

“The rain came as you can see. I’m a little wet and so we had to move it inside, but yeah we are still excited about having it, getting to see neighbors, and interacting with one another,” Murray said.

There was plenty of food at the event including burgers and hot dogs, activities like games for the kids to enjoy, and more.

Murray explains the inspiration behind creating this block party.

“Just needing to get outside the walls and get to know our neighbors. That is the biggest thing. We are a part of downtown. We talk about First Methodist Church being downtown for good. We need to be a part of the downtown area by getting to know our neighbors, so that’s one of the reasons why we did it,” Murray said.

This event proved to be a testament to the power of togetherness and friendship with everyone having a great time. Neighbors became friends, strangers found common ground, and the spirit of compassion flourished.

Murray tells us that the Summer Block Party will more than likely become an annual event.
