Madison Co. considers sale of Sulphur Springs Park

CANTON, Miss. (AP) – After two years and more than $2 million, the defunct Sulphur Springs Park in Madison County may soon be on the market.

The Clarion-Ledger reports the Madison County Board of Supervisors is looking for an appraiser and soon hopes to list the property.

Board president Trey Baxter says it’s time to pull the plug on the loss.

Sulphur Springs has been a source of contention for the board since its inception. It was cited as an example of wasteful spending by Baxter and Supervisor Sheila Jones before they were elected in November.

Baxter said the estimates for the park went “way over,” and an additional $700,000 would be needed to complete the project.
