Chance for more storms this afternoon

Weather Update: 10:00 AM Thursday

Scattered rain still lingers in parts of the West Tennessee area. The best chance for more activity to develop and bring us more widespread showers and thunderstorms will be this afternoon, mainly after 1 PM. The sun is trying to peak through parts of the cloud deck in the areas that aren’t under rain showers. Current temps are in the low to mid 70s. It’s a slower start to warm up today because of the clouds and rain.

This afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible as the cold front that pushed through yesterday stalls out in the region. Today we are looking at a more widespread set up this afternoon. There is enough energy to fuel some strong storms with the main threats being localized flash flooding and strong winds. We are not currently under any substantial risk for severe weather but that does not mean we won’t see some strong storms develop. Afternoon high temps are only expected to reach into the low to mid 80s.

Tonight the same cold front that is stalling out will lift as it moves off to the north and east keeping the chance for rain as we go overnight tonight and into Friday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day again Friday. High temps continue to cool as we go into the weekend. We’ll stay warm and muggy under cloudy skies tonight. Low temps looking to drop into the upper 60s.

There is also a chance for more thunderstorms starting out our day on Saturday ahead of a secondary cold front will by Saturday afternoon. This secondary frontal system will keep our afternoon highs in the upper 70s to low 80s through the start of next week. It also keeps the chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through early Sunday morning. By Sunday, we start to dry out and the humidity begins to fall. It looks to be a cool and comfortable start to the workweek next week.
