Jackson Woman Without Power for Nearly Two Weeks After Storms

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. – Kimberly Jones said an extension chord from her neighbors home is the only source of power her family has had for nine days. Last Thursday, 70 mile per hour winds slammed Jackson, destroying homes and downing power lines. Jones said she is the only person on her street still without power and feels Jackson Energy Authority has forgotten about her. “When you’re in the house and there is no light to turn off and you know the next day you’re not gonna have a light to turn on, you know, it’s kind of like ‘wow where do I go’?” said Jones. JEA, Jones’ electricity provider said as far as they know, power has been restored to all those affected by the storms. However, Jones says she’s been calling the company for help twice a day. “Oh my goodness,” Jones said. “Probably twenty, at least twenty (calls). It’s usually voice mails, me calling to say ‘it’s me again you know’. They probably know me by name.” Jones said the lack of power has cost her more than $500 in hotel bills, rotted food, the purchasing of new food and traveling costs to family members homes. She said she just wants to be comfortable in her home again. “Everybody’s in their own groove and then you feel out of place and a burden to stay with them,” said Jones. JEA said there is no reason it would take more than a week to restore a customer’s power. Jones’ neighbor Latina Partlow said she feels for her discomfort. “She’s a victim of the storm just like everybody else,” Partlow said. “If this were them, they’d want it over a long time ago. It’s not fair to her.” Jones said all she wants is a hot shower and her family back home. She added that she hopes by Monday to have power back. JEA said they could not comment on specific customers accounts, but said restoring power to a customer should not take more than a week.
