6 running in Mississippi House special election in Delta
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Six candidates are running in special election to fill a vacant seat in the Mississippi House.
Polls are open until 7 p.m. Tuesday in District 29 in the Delta’s Bolivar and Sunflower counties.
The candidates are Cynthia Blockett, Abe Marshall Hudson Jr., Darryl R. Johnson Sr., Henry Knox, Earl S. Lucas and Dalerick Wesley.
If a runoff is needed, it will be June 28.
The winner will succeed former Rep. Linda Coleman, a Democrat who had served since 1992. She left the House in March after being sworn in as a circuit judge, a nonpartisan post to which she was appointed by the governor.
Candidates in special legislative elections run without a party label but usually tell voters their party preference.
