Hattiesburg community, job finalists call for accountability

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – Accountability will play a huge role in the career of the next superintendent of Hattiesburg Public School District.

The Hattiesburg American reports at least that’s what community members say they want, and what the three superintendent finalists say is a priority if given the job.

Retired teacher Dora Sue Ferrell said even property values are affected by an area’s school system.

The finalists were given 10 minutes each to introduce themselves and their ideals to the audience of about 200 Sunday during a special-called school board meeting at Hattiesburg High.

The finalists are Toriano Holloway, assistant superintendent of Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District; Janice Johnson, assistant superintendent of Biloxi Public School District; and Tony McGee, superintendent of Scott County School District.
