Dozen malnourished dogs rescued from Poplarville home

POPLARVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Officials say a dozen dogs living in deplorable conditions have been rescued from a Pearl River County home.

WLOX-TV reports Poplarville animal control officers confiscated the animals Tuesday. Mayor Brad Necaise says complaints from neighbors led to the raid.

Lauren Fitts, president of Animal Advocates of Pearl River County, says the dogs will need a lot of medical attention.

Officials say the animals are malnourished, flea infested and some are covered in sores.

The dogs will be taken to the county animal shelter, where they’ll be nursed back to health. Officials then hope to find capable owners for the animals.

The unidentified homeowner told WLOX that she loved her dogs and took care of them to the best of her ability.

Police say the owner will not face charges.
