Thousands of kids turn out for ‘Touch a Truck Day’

JACKSON, Tenn. — Thousands of West Tennessee kids got an up-close lesson Wednesday at Jackson Fairgrounds Park.

Touch a Truck 2016The city of Jackson hosted this year’s Touch a Truck Day, giving students a chance to learn about the vehicles that make the work of first responders possible, including fire trucks, tractors and helicopters.

“We got over 2,000 to 2,500 kids here already, and we only got about a hour left and they’re still coming in,” said Pee Wee Williamson-Easley, Westwood program event coordinator.

Wednesday’s turnout even beat last year’s number of more than 2,000 children in attendance.
