Dresden church takes part in faith-based addiction effort

DRESDEN, Tenn. — A faith-based recovery community initiative was introduced Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Dresden.

Faith-based recoveryIt’s one of many churches the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse is planning to visit.

The goal is to visit different churches and help them build recovery support to help combat addiction across the state.

Director Monty Burks says he hopes to bring awareness to the severity of addiction.

“We have almost 12,000 churches in the state. That’s the biggest single entity or population that we have across the state,” Burks said. “If everybody shared the same message, that’s how you win — that’s how you beat something.”

If your church or faith-based organization is interested in joining the initiative, you can find more information here.
