1 arrest, 1 sought in church vandalism

BRANDON, Miss. (AP) – One woman is in custody and Rankin County authorities are searching for another in a church vandalism.

The Clarion-Ledger reports Elizabeth Lauren Guy, of Brandon, has been arrested and faces a charge of burglary of St. Marks United Methodist Church. Authorities say she has implicated Anna Paige Smith as her accomplice.

Undersheriff Raymond Duke, in a news release Monday, said St. Marks United Methodist Church had obscenities written on dining hall tables, church funds were stolen and rooms were vandalized and trashed. Authorities say the women also allegedly adjusted the sprinkler system, causing the parking lot to flood.

Duke says surveillance video played a large part in identifying the women, as well as evidence collected on scene.

If convicted, each could face up to 14 years for church burglary.
