Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau cancels city lease

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) – The Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau has received the city’s permission to leave the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad Depot.

The Vicksburg Post reports that the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday authorized Mayor George Flaggs Jr. to cancel the VCVB’s 20-year lease at the depot.

The city will reimburse the $116,250 that has been unused of the $150,000 total rent the visitors bureau paid up front when the lease was signed in 2012.

VCVB executive director Bill Seratt cited the Old Depot Museum’s planned expansion in the building, as well as a broken elevator and flooding concerns as reasons for cancelling the lease.

The bureau has not yet signed a lease on its future location.
