MCKENZIE, Tenn.–More than 100 teenagers traveled to West Tennessee to help people in need this week. They volunteered to paint in the heat. Teenagers from 11 churches across the region painted houses in McKenzie, Wednesday. “We’ve painted sheds, houses, roofs, anything you can think of,” said Briana Brasfield, a volunteer. “We’re just working hard out here trying to get it done for them.” Brasfield traveled from Lauderdale County. “When you walk outside and you see the smile on their faces, and they’re like, ‘y‘all are doing such a good job,” she said. Kevin Turbeville brought his youth group from Alabama. “The first year that we did this one of my kids said that’s the hardest thing that I’ve ever loved doing,” he said. Workers help total strangers, free of charges. “Our hope is that you know these peoples’ lives are touched and maybe through our efforts they can come to God and Christ a little bit better,” said Turbeville. Workers paint with a smile, despite the heat. “We have a lot of breaks you know,” said Brasfield. “We don’t want to get dehydrated or anything.” The McKenzie Church of Christ is hosting the crowd. The summer work camp continues through Thursday evening.
