Vowell heads to Peabody High School
TRENTON, Tenn. — North Side High School’s former head football coach, Tab Vowell, resigned from coaching at the ‘Reservation’ at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, but now he is heading to the Peabody High School gridiron.
Since he began coaching at North Side in 2009, Vowell helped the Indians go to the playoffs every year but one. Now he is on the roster at Peabody High School to help with their defense. One other interesting fact, Vowell was the head coach at North Side when head coach of Peabody Shane Jacobs got into the coaching business, being one of his assistants for the Indians.
Jacobs said, “He took me under his wing and spent a lot of time teaching me, and he was patient with a lot of my dumb questions.”
They worked together so long that when Jacobs left for his new job, he was recruiting Vowell to join him.
“We worked together at North Side for about seven years and then as soon as I came over here to Trenton, I’ve been calling him for four years wanting him to come over here,” Jacobs said.
Well he is finally on board and looks to help the Golden Tide reach the state championship game as they fell one game shy last season, finishing 11-3.
When asked about what makes Vowell a good coach, Jacobs had a quick answer.
“He’s very methodical with everything he does and he’s always very prepared and he’s a true professional at what he does,” Jacobs said.
The Golden Tide kick the season off July 11th with efforts to get ready for their daunting challenge, when they take on Milan in the first game of the season, August 19th.
