Police: Boy left in truck while couple ate dinner

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) – A woman and her boyfriend each face a misdemeanor child neglect charge after police they say they left her 9-year-old boy in a hot pickup truck while they went to a restaurant.

Police Chief Mike DeNardo tells The Sun Herald police had been looking for the parents about 45 minutes Sunday when the unidentified couple walked up and asked what was going on.

He says officers reported the truck was parked in the sun with its windows rolled down, about 180 yards from the restaurant.

DeNardo says the mother said the boy didn’t want to get out of the truck so they went in to eat without him.

The mother, from Bay St. Louis, and her boyfriend, of Mandeville, Louisiana, each received a citation and a notice to appear in Municipal Court.
