Jackson NAACP Reading Roundup concludes Tuesday
JACKSON, TENN. — The Tennessee State Conference the NAACP concluded its pilot summer reading program today.
The eight week program hosted 55 children between the ages of six and seven in a camp where they learned how to read, how to eat healthy and were able to learn how to garden throughout the Reading Roundup.
Organizers say one of the main goals of the program is to inspire young kids to read more. “The sessions were student centered where learning and fun occurred today each child will go home with two books, a round up hat and a t-shirt to remind them that reading is fun,” says President of the Tennessee NAACP Gloria Sweet-Love
The NAACP representatives say they hope to expand the program further next year to reach more children in the area.
