Jackson police announce increased traffic enforcement for holiday weekend

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Police Department has announced they will conduct increased traffic enforcement during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Holiday traffic enforcementFrom 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, officers will conduct increased traffic enforcement focused on removing impaired drivers from the roadways as well as other dangerous moving violations including speeding, following too closely, and texting and driving, according to a release from the department.

Non-compliance with safety belt and child restraint laws will be vigorously enforced as well.

During the 2015 Independence Day holiday period in Jackson, there were 30 traffic crashes, six crashes with injuries wherein eight people were injured, and three people arrested for DUI, according to the release.

Motorists are encouraged to be extra vigilant while traveling this weekend.
