Representative meets mother of diabetic child to apologize
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – State Rep. Jeffrey Guice of Ocean Springs has met with the mother of a diabetic child after telling her to buy her child’s medication instead of relying on Medicaid.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that Guice met with Nicole Nichols Wednesday in Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn’s office.
Nichols said in a Facebook post that she received a “formal and informal” apology from Guice. She declined to comment on the specifics of the meeting.
Guice could not be reached for comment by the newspaper.
Nichols sent an email to members of the Legislature Monday asking for help navigating Medicaid to get medication for her daughter. Guice responded to the email by suggesting Nichols buy the supplies with money she had earned.
He issued a written apology Tuesday.
