Fireworks stands are popping as last-minute shoppers stock up

MILAN, Tenn. — Customers stocked up on fireworks Monday for the Fourth of July. Some fireworks stands said they have been slammed.

fireworks1Workers rang up customers making last-minute purchases at a fireworks stand in Milan. “It’s been crazy,” Morgan Lawrence, tent owner, said. “I’ve been crazy busy.”

Lawrence runs a tent in Milan and said she gets busier as the Fourth of July gets closer. “All of my big assortments and higher-priced items go faster,” she said.

William Johnson, 13, racked up Monday. His family took home a shopping bag full of fireworks. “We just purchased festival balls, roman candles, those little Texas chainsaws,” he said.

Lawrence said the average customer spends anywhere from $50 to $100.

Counters once stacked high now sit empty in spots. Lawrence said everything she has left is out except for a few miscellaneous items. “I’ve actually had more people this year come and buy stuff earlier because they told me they wanted to get it before it was gone,” she said.

Lawrence said she hopes to sell everything. “Selling these fireworks helps me pay for college,” she said.

Lawrence said they have also had a lot more people take advantage of the military discount this year.

The fireworks stand in Milan is open through Tuesday.
