Ingalls lifts deckhouse on Tripoli
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) – Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula has successfully installed the deckhouse on the amphibious assault ship Tripoli (LHA 7).
The Sun Herald reports the lifting of the deckhouse is a major event in the ship’s construction schedule and begins the integration of the three largest sections of the ship. The deckhouse was installed on Saturday – three weeks ahead of schedule.
Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias say his company continues to be the builder of choice when it comes to the construction of amphibious warships for the U.S. Navy.
Premo Sabbatini, Ingalls’ LHA 7 program director, says the deckhouse installation on Tripoli was no small feat.
The 5-level deckhouse houses radio and radar spaces, the primary flight control station and the pilot house.
