Tennessee paramedic dies in accident during training at lake

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) – An eastern Tennessee paramedic has died in an accident during training at a lake.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s Capt. Andy Seabolt says 36-year-old Washington County/Johnson City paramedic Jason Austin of Limestone was pronounced dead Thursday at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office tells the Johnson City Press that Austin was working on his deep dive certification at South Holston Lake.

Washington County/Johnson City EMS executive director Dan Wheeley says that in addition to being part of the EMS management team and a field training officer for new employees, Austin was on a team that conducts rescue and search dives.
