Programs at Smokies visitor center look at biodiversity

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) – A series of programs is being offered at Great Smoky Mountains National park to offer an inside look at some of the biodiversity found there.

Discover Science at Sugarlands is provided by Discovered Life in America along with the park at Sugarlands Visitor Center. The next program will be Aug. 19, followed by Sept. 16 and Oct. 21 with topics to include synchronous fireflies, climate change and the Smokies and leaves’ changing colors.

The programs last two hours and are designed to interest all age levels.

Discover Life in America said in a news release it is conducting an ongoing project to inventory all species in the park, estimated to number 60,000 to 80,000.
