Thanks to donors FHU celebrates a new place to play

HENDERSON, Tenn.—This local college celebrates a new win for both male and female teams.

Freed-Hardeman University held a ribbon cutting Saturday afternoon.

The Patterson and Craft family have both helped with the improvement of FHU’s soccer field.

Before the new field, both male and female soccer teams were not be able to play after rainy days. Now with the new improvements, such as drainage and scaling, the teams have a new field.

FHU’s President, David Shannon shares more.

“Often times after it had rain before, we couldn’t play on the fields for a few days and now it drains much better, also it’s smoother for better soccer play,” Shannon said.

Goals can be made on and off the field.

One of FHU’s alumni and donor Michael Patterson says how this moment was a huge goal for both him and his wife.

“Our kind of goal in life was how can we do something that would impact our kids but our future generations of our kid’s kids and so, we’ve been able to do that by donating money to secure the soccer field that needed work and give kids a chance for the future to come play here,” Patterson said.

FHU’s president also says that both families have been key contributors to the athletic department and students.

“We get to show our appreciation to two families the craft family and the Patterson family who have given very generously to support FHU athletics and but even more so to support the students,” Shannon said.

The Patterson’s are very involved in students lives by awarding students with scholarships to help their college journey.

At the ribbon cutting, David Craft, an alumni of FHU, was honored and received a memorial field that players can practice on.
