Officials say plan to restore Carroll Lake is in place
CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. — Officials now have a schedule set to restore Carroll Lake, which ran dry after floodwaters damaged the spillway two years ago.
A bidder has been picked to build and install the new gates to manage the water level.
The lake is located on Highway 22 between McKenzie and Huntingdon.
The next step, which is planned for this fall, will be to spray the area, close the gates and begin refilling the lake with water and wildlife.
Organizers say they’re happy moving the project forward.
“It will be easy to bring it back because of the creek that flows through, and it also has an extremely large watershed for the amount of water that the lake will hold,” said Nathan Warden, a wildlife manager with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
Once repairs are done, no fishing will be allowed at the lake until 2019.
