North Side gets adjusted to new coach

JACKSON, Tenn — Last year former North Side head coach Tab Vowell stepped down and left the Indians wondering who would lead their program. Questions were answered when they hired former national champion and Titan Donnie Nickey.  Nickey said there was definitely some adjusting to do, being on the coaching side of things now.

“Oh it’s been a learning process, a lot of it has been communication, and learning how to communicate and learn how to teach, and verbalize all the things I was just used to doing and being told to do,” said Nickey.  “Transitioning from that, and doing it smoothly, has been a process.”Screen Shot 2016-07-26 at 6.48.12 PM

From when he took over the team, Nickey said it’s like night and day. He said the players are more focused, their attention to detail has gotten better and he says they want to play for him which is always a good thing.

Junior Defensive lineman Greg Emerson, said playing for Nickey has pushed them all to new heights.

“You know it motivates us, to try and get to the next level from where we been because, you know for the past three years we been getting put out second round, so we want to get past that,” said Emerson.  “You know, that level, even if we get to round three and get put out, you know we got one step higher.”

The Indians will get things started with Oakland High from Murfreesboro.
