Police: Bank robber produced rap video critical of cops

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Police say an up-and-coming Gulfport hip-hop artist may have to put his career plans on hold after police say he robbed a bank.

Gulfport police tell The Sun Herald 23-year-old Byron Michael Fairley robbed a BancorpSouth branch with a BB gun Wednesday.

Sgt. Damon McDaniel, the police department’s public information office, was in the area of the bank robbery and made the arrest during a search of a wooded area.

McDaniel said Fairley is well-known at the Gulfport Police Department because of a video the suspect posted to his Facebook page on July 16.

He says Fairley’s video made anti-police statements, and it was recorded in front of police headquarters next to a marked police vehicle.
