Sanders urges delegates supporting him to get behind Clinton
DETROIT (AP) – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders tells delegates he’s grateful for their support in his presidential bid but urged them to back his former rival, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
Sanders said at a Thursday meeting of delegates from Michigan, Minnesota, Tennessee and Oregon that his agenda “is the future of America.” He says it’s “absolutely imperative” to elect Clinton and defeat Republican Donald Trump.
Sanders, who spoke near the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, says Trump is “dangerous” and a “demagogue” who insults women and minorities.
Bruce Fealk, a Sanders delegate from Michigan, says the Vermont senator was “magnanimous” but adds “he can’t make his supporters love Hillary Clinton.” Fealk adds “that’s going to be her job” Thursday night, when she delivers her acceptance speech.
