Man found dead in Pascagoula River identified

GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) – Authorities have identified the man whose body was found in the Pascagoula River.

Media outlets report that Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus announced Thursday that the man has been identified as 75-year-old Stephen Foster Krebs Sr. of Pascagoula. An autopsy will not be performed.

Once the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources completes its investigation, Broadus says it’s expected that the ruling will be an accidental drowning.

Gautier Police Officer Matt Hoggart says police were notified shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday that a man had fallen overboard while boating in the Big Lake area of the Pascagoula River.

The Gautier Police Department’s dive team and MDMR officers responded to the call.

Divers recovered Krebs’s body shortly before 11 p.m. near the area where he fell overboard.
