Suspect allegedly drove from Michigan to West Tennessee to meet child under 13
HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A suspect from Michigan was arrested in Henry County over the weekend for an alleged sex crime involving a child.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the report of a suspicious person and vehicle in the Henry area around 1:26 a.m. Saturday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office says upon arrival, an unoccupied white Lincoln with Michigan registration was located on the side of the road in a ditch, and deputies began checking area residences.
During a search of the area, the sheriff’s office says deputies observed a subject crawl out of the window of a home.
Authorities confirm the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Shaker Alagrai, was taken into custody.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says that an investigation revealed that Alagrai, who is from Coldwater, Michigan, had been communicating through social media with a female under the age of 13.
The Sheriff’s Office says Alagrai travelled to Henry County to meet with the child, and entered the home without the parent’s consent.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Alagrai was charged with criminal attempt to commit rape of a child, aggravated sexual battery and aggravated burglary.
Alagrai is currently being held on a $500,000 bond, pending arraignment in Henry County General Sessions Court on Tuesday.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing with assistance of the Department of Children Services and the Henry County Office of the Carl Perkins Child Advocacy Center, and additional charges are expected.
