Stray bullet injures local store clerk; suspect shooting nearby to ‘blow off steam’

DRESDEN, Tenn. — A West Tennessee man is behind bars after a convenience store clerk is struck by gunfire.

According to Chief Bryan Chandler with the Dresden Police Department, 19-year-old Devon Henry, of Sharon, was arrested on Saturday.

Chief Chandler says that Henry and his girlfriend were allegedly involved in a verbal altercation at an apartment complex, located across the street from TJ’s Market in Dresden.

According to Chandler, Henry went outside and fired multiple rounds at a tree “to blow off steam,” however he missed his target, and six shots struck TJ’s Market.

Chandler confirms that the store clerk was injured when a bullet ricocheted, split into fragments, and struck the clerk’s earlobe. The clerk was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Chief Chandler, Henry was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and vandalism.

Henry currently remains in custody at the Weakley County jail.
