Grant provides Jackson officers with updated victim info cards

JACKSON, Tenn. – Local leaders gathered to announce the use of a new Community Impact Grant.

The Community Foundation of West Tennessee has partnered with WRAP to create a new project for our area.

They met at the Jackson Police Department to announce their new project.

“We are here today because the Community Foundation of West Tennessee provided us with a Community Grant in order for us to do a project called Wrapped in Support,” said Jenci Spradlin,  the Development Coordinator for WRAP.

The goal of the project is to provide adequate information for victims of domestic violence.

“And one of the big things that we wanted to accomplish with this grant was to be able to provide relevant information to survivors in this community. Around West Tennessee, 40% of all crimes against persons are involving some form of domestic violence or sexual assault,” Spradlin said.

Through this grant, they were able to provide the Jackson Police Department with 7,000 updated victim information cards.

These are cards that patrol officers provide on-scene to domestic violence victims. They include information regarding victims’ legal rights, as well as other important information.

“We were able to update these cards. It clearly shows the 800 number for WRAp. It clearly shows the address for the Safe Hope Center, and directs people to contact those areas and resources so they can get the help they need,” Spradlin said.

This is the first time these cards have been updated in over a decade.

Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley says that they value their partnership with WRAP.
