STAR Center holds 8th annual ‘Dancing With the STARS’

JACKSON, Tenn. – The STAR Center held their 8th annual “Dancing With the STARS” event at the Jackson Fairgrounds on Thursday.

City leaders across Jackson were asked to show off their best dance skills to help fundraise for the center.

“The expectation of the dancer is to raise to $2,000 before the night of the event and our 14 dancers have already exceeded $30,000,” STAR Center President Jennifer Graves.

Throughout the night, guests were encouraged to vote for their favorite dancer. All proceeds go towards the STAR Center.

“The STAR Center has been a part of Jackson, Tennessee for 35 years, and our mission is to help any person with any disability to realize their potential. And I am so grateful for every donor who steps up and helps our clients crush the no,” Graves said.

Some dancers who were once attendees of this night of dancing shared how his team has been practicing for over 80 days.

“We had long rehearsals at the beginning, started narrowing them down for the amount of time. So this week we had less time to rehearse, but we were nailing everything so we feel really good,” said Joseph Robinson, the General Manager of Robinson Toyota.

Each dance group had their own choreographer to help them prepare. One particular choreographer has been volunteering for the past seven years.

“I appreciate so much what the STAR Center does. They offer so many services that some of our public schools can’t, and they really fill that void and that is very important to me which is why I volunteer,” said Carol Ann Williams, the Choreographer for the Terry Crowder and Brian Davis Team.

This event is impactful to the City of Jackson. It is so impactful that there was a watch party at the Hub City Brewing.

Guests there were also encouraged to vote for their favorite teams.
