EARLIER STORY:
HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — Approximately 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett, Jr. received a call from a farmer who was harvesting a soybean field nearby where a local woman went missing.

“When we went out to check it with investigators, deputies and myself, we did notice it was human remains,” Sheriff Garrett said.
After the Sheriff’s Department confirmed the remains were female, they contacted the local coroner’s office.

The body was recovered and sent to the Memphis medical examiner’s office for identification, and to try to determine the cause and manner of death.
The Haywood County Sheriff’s Department has not confirmed that the body found is Dana Davis, who was reported missing by her mother nearly three weeks ago.

“We’re actively investigating the case, and we are following any kind of information that we get, we have been doing that since the day she’s been missing, we’ve never stopped,” said Sheriff Garrett.
However, they searched the area weeks ago with dogs, and there was never a trace of the missing woman found in that area.
Dana Davis was last seen near the intersection of Cobb Crossing Road and Highway 79.

The family has been notified by investigators of the recent discovery.
