Dream Center Unveils New Building
JACKSON, TENN– The Dream Center isn’t new to Jackson. It served as a home for the homeless for nearly two decades until in 2016, when after a series of bad luck, they lost their old building, located at the former Regional Hospital of Jackson on Old Hickory.
“When we heard that the dream center was homeless, the homeless shelter was homeless, God put it into my heart to help,” said Pastor Randy Carter.
After a donation of land by the Northside Assembly of God Church, the project began. Thursday they proudly unveiled the 6.7 million dollar building full of all amenities women and children would need for an extended stay; rooms with bunk beds, a library, art studio, a fully loaded cafeteria, and more.
“We also help you get back on your feet and get a job and help you learn how to take care of your children and yourself while also working on improving your life,” said Amy Allen who works in Client Services at the Dream Center.
All of these amenities are paid for entirely by donation. At full capacity, Allen says the dream center can house up to 90 occupants. She also told us they already have occupants living there and are hoping for more.
“Some of the people that are here were in our older facility that we were in temporary housing and so they have obviously moved in with us, and we’ve probably had about three or four more families join us since the opening,” said Allen.
The new Dream Center building is located at 59 Oil Well Road.
