Humboldt students join nationally-known artist to install new community mural
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — A community mural exploring place, identity, and environment.
Nationally-known mural artist, Hamilton Glass, has arrived in Humboldt to create a mural on Main Street.
Around 100 art students from Humboldt Junior/Senior High School are working with him.
From November 6-10, Glass is installing the mural with the kids painting alongside him.
The students already worked together to design the project and virtually met with Glass four times before his arrival.
The Tennessee Arts Commission gave a generous grant to make this possible.
“Their faces lit up when they talked about the Strawberry Festival, largely because of that sense of community that we have during that week, and we decided hey, maybe we want that sense of community to stay, all the time. And so that’s kind of where we went with the mural,” said Libby Lynch, Humboldt Junior/Senior High art teacher.
Mural art helps to make a town more inviting, so visitors are more likely to walk around, shop, or grab coffee. Thus, the impact is lasting and relatively maintenance-free for years to come.
