Rain Showers Lasting Through Friday Morning!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
A cold front passed by this morning and dropped temperatures about 20°. The front is stalling out and a low pressure system moving in will bring a widespread 1/2″-1″ of rain to West Tennessee with some locations southeast of Jackson likely to see even more. Although many of us would have liked to see some heavier rain so far today, the good news is we have more chances tonight to increase our rain numbers. Showers will be off and on and continue into Friday morning. We will be tracking the radar and let you know when the showers are going to be moving out, coming up here.

The rain deficit continues to get worse across the Mid South and West Tennessee as most of our viewing area is under an extreme or severe drought. There is some rain in the forecast with most of us seeing between 1/2″-1″ of rain with a few folks seeing close to 1.5″ southeast of Jackson where we need the rain the most.
TONIGHT:
After several warm and dry days to kick off the work week, changes returned on Thursday. A cold front passed by early in the morning and brought a 20° temperature drop with it. The front stalled out and rain showers returned early in the afternoon and will get heavier as the evening and night progress. We are not expecting severe weather or big storms, but a few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out. Most of West Tennessee will pick up at least 1/2″ of rain with many locations seeing over 1″ Some areas might even get up close to 1.5″ by Friday afternoon. Thursday highs happened early in the morning. Cloudy skies returned in the afternoon and cloudy conditions are expected overnight. The winds shifted back to the north early Thursday after the front passed and will stay out of the north tonight. Thursday night lows will dip down to the mid 40s.

FRIDAY:
Rain showers are likely to continue for the first half of the day on Friday before clearing out sometime into the afternoon. As of now, although the football fields will be wet, it appears the rain will have stopped falling by kickoff for the Friday night playoff games. Highs on Friday will reach the mid 50s and Friday night lows will drop all the way down to around 40°.

The clouds may try to clear out Friday evening/night and depending on the amount of clouds, will determine the temperatures for the football games. As of now it looks like temperatures will be in the 40s for during the games. Winds will come out of the north and be a bit breezy at times as the system clears out. Here is look at the total rainfall expected from the current system before it clears out Friday afternoon.

THE WEEKEND:
Saturday is Veteran’s Day, so please thank a veteran this weekend for all they have sacrificed for us. The weather this weekend looks to be a bit chilly and as of now, we think it is going to be dry. There will be a low pressure system passing just south of us so the rain showers will be close. We will be keeping a close eye on the forecast as the week progresses. Highs this weekend will reach up to the low 60s and morning lows will hang around the low 40s. We are expecting partly cloudy skies and the winds will come out of the northeast most of the weekend as well, helping to keep the temperatures a few degrees below normal.
NEXT WEEK:
Temperatures next week look to be very close to normal for this time of the year. Highs will reach the mid 60s for the first half of the week and we are going to see partly cloudy skies in general. Morning lows will hang around 40° so each morning will be a bit chilly. The winds will come out of the north for the first half of the week before transitioning back to the southeast in the middle of the week. Rain showers are not in the forecast for the start of the week but chances increase late Tuesday night into the middle of the week. A low pressure system is going to pass to the south and will look to bring some rain chances back on Wednesday. The next front looks to be heading our way next Thursday or Friday as well.
FINAL THOUGHT:
The first frost and freeze came last week and we were dealing with record highs this week. Cooler weather returned for the end of the work week and will stick around into the weekend. Well needed rain is coming from Thursday evening into Friday morning, and that is some great news. We really need the rain badly as drought conditions are becoming extreme across most of West Tennessee.
