2 airlifted after patrol vehicle responding to I-40 wreck is rear-ended
HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — A law enforcement official was injured Wednesday morning while responding to a wreck on Interstate 40.
According to a media release from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Dwan Anderson of the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene of a vehicle crash around 6 a.m.
The release states that the wreck had occurred on the interstate near mile marker 60, and involved a vehicle striking the guard rail with no injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, Sergeant Anderson had just parked his patrol vehicle in the emergency lane, with his emergency lights activated, when a third motorist struck his vehicle.
The release states the motorist was driving at a high rate of speed, and apparently tried to go around stopped traffic, resulting in Anderson’s patrol vehicle being rear-ended.
The release says that both Sergeant Anderson and the driver who struck his vehicle were airlifted to area hospitals.
Sheriff Billy Garrett confirms the injuries are not life threatening.
