Madison County looks to add additional juvenile housing

JACKSON, Tenn. — A meeting was held Thursday to make decisions for the progression of the community.

The Long Range Planning committee held a meeting to discuss how to continuously grow Madison County.

One main focus was to build a better juvenile system to house kids.

Judge Christy Little was adamant about making sure that the living quarters are suitable and that there are enough rooms to accommodate them.

By the end of the meeting, a motion was made to ask for a budget to begin work for juvenile housing.

“Some of our juveniles, currently we’re having to outsource to other counties,” said County Commissioner Mike Bryant. “We don’t have enough beds for them, and we pay those other counties to house them for us, which the opposite would be true, if we’re able to have a 24-bed facility here, we would be able to take on some other counties.”

The next meeting will be held in December.
