Dyersburg Police issue statement regarding bus accident

DYERSBURG, Tenn.— Student injured during accident involving a school bus.

According to the Dyersburg Police Department, a student was transported to a Memphis hospital following a bus accident Friday.

The Dyersburg Police Department issued a statement to social media Saturday afternoon stating that Friday morning November 17, officers responded to an accident involving a Dyersburg High School student and a Dyer County School Bus.

The department said the student was injured after running towards the bus as it was traveling down the roadway. The bus had already left the designated bus stop where students are picked up. The student ran towards the moving bus, and tripped falling under the path of the tires at the rear of the bus. The student was transported to a hospital in Memphis.

In a statement from the Facebook post, Dyersburg Police Chief Steve Isbell said, “The department has completed the investigation, and no charges will be filed. This was an unfortunate accident, and there was nothing more the bus driver could have done.”
