RIFA works to provide a hunger-free holiday season
JACKSON, Tenn.—More than 10 percent of the population goes to bed hungry at night. But today, a local organization presented an event that helps struggling families.
RIFA hosted the Hunger-Free Food Drive for those in need today at Kroger on University Parkway.
Members of RIFA stood at the doorways, handing out lists in hopes that customers will not only shop for themselves, but for those who may not have the funds to provide a holiday meal for their families.
We spoke with Denice Walton, Donor and Community Relations rep for RIFA, and she stated that there are people hungry every day so this makes her ecstatic to help.
“We’re hoping to be able to gift folks with the bags of items for traditional Thanksgiving meals and Christmas meals as well. The things that will be on our table, we want everyone to have that opportunity to have that same meal,” Walton said.
Walton gives more details on how to connect with RIFA.
“We’re at 133 Airways in Downtown Jackson. We’ll take food donations, of course monetary donations. We’re just so grateful for folks to come alongside us and partner to help us feed our hungry friends and neighbors,” Walton said.
Walton is very thankful for their gracious friends at Kroger, who supported this idea and made it easy for shoppers to find the food needed to support this cause.
This is the first time RIFA has conducted this event. A future date has not been set for the next event.
