Early morning fire claims life in Benton County
BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — An early morning fire claims a life in Benton County.
According to Benton County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch, authorities responded to a report of a residential structure fire.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirms the fire occurred Monday morning in the 800 block of Chalk Hill Church Road in Camden.
According to the dispatch report, a caller informed that a porch was on fire and that occupants were still inside.
A Benton County Sheriff’s deputy stated that neighboring individuals were able to get a female occupant out, however a male occupant remained inside the residence, which became fully engulfed in flames.
The dispatch report states that the deputy confirmed the male to be deceased. At this time, the identity has not been confirmed.
Due to the death, Benton County’s EMA director requested TBI fire investigators to be notified.
Along with the Sheriff’s Office, EMS officials and the local electric company, the response also involved assistance from the Eva, Camden, and Sandy River fire departments.
According to the TBI, their fire investigators are working alongside the Chalk Level Fire Department in the investigation, which remains ongoing.
