Jackson highlights nonprofits on Giving Tuesday #731
JACKSON,Tenn.– Non-profits in the Hub city compete in friendly competition.
Tuesday, November 28th, marks the 11th year of “Giving Tuesday.”
This day highlights the importance of being generous rather that’s giving your time, kindness, or money.
“It’s really neat that United Way kind of continues to use that motto, and brings all the non profits together through what we have as ‘Giving Tuesday #731’ now,” shares, Morgan White, executive director of Jackson Arts Council.
The Habitat for Humanity in Jackson shares how this day impacts members of the community.
“One being our aging and place program where we serve 38 families throughout this year, that need accessibility repairs. Such as grab bars, being able to get into their house safety through ramps, roofs and other things like that,” says, Andrea Hudgins, CEO of Habitat for Humanity in Jackson.
Giving Tuesday also helps them-Habitat for Humanity- to continue to build houses in the city.
Aside from monetary donations they’re also asking for gently used home appliances.
“We ask people to donate to our restore. Those restore funds help us to continue to build here in Jackson,” Hudgins says.
Jackson Arts Council is hoping that today helps them reach their goal amount.
They are currently helping to fund over 7 different counties.
With these donations they are able to provide grants to artists within the council.
“So, we are hoping that this will enable us to have a broader reach and continue to serve an equitable and divvy out our grant funds that we do every year,” White shares.
Leaders Credit Union’s Education Foundation uses this day to help fund community members with scholarships to students and teachers in three different ways.
“We do collegiate scholarships and workforce development scholarships. Our second initiative, is for teacher support so we do teacher grants in the form of classroom grants, professional development .Our third initiative, is supporting programs that already focus on education within west Tennessee,” says Leigh Anne Bentley.
They also highlight their donor members on a wall located in one of their branches in Jackson.
“It was in the 2019 or 2020 when we kind of launched. So, if you gave while we initiated the start of the foundations then you made the wall,” says Bentley.
2024’s giving Tuesday will be on December 3.
