Protecting your finances from holiday scammers

JACKSON, Tenn. — Holidays can be a great time for shopping and catching a good deal, but sometimes it’s not a deal you are catching, but a fake.

CashApp’s head of security shared some tips to keep you aware of potential scams.

Make sure to use caution when interacting online, and especially social media, that may have ads or ways of purchasing items.

And when purchasing, check to make sure it is a verified source, or someone you know.

You should also protect your passwords and sign-in codes, along with verifying any money requests, or refunding an “accidental” transfer of funds, because it could be a scam.

“Also, if your payment app like Cash App lets you set a pin, you should enable that in the app and turn on features like security lock, which makes sure that if someone gets ahold of your phone, they can’t use your signed in app to pay themselves,” said Dino Dai Zovi.

And if you feel that you have been scammed, report it through your payment app.
