Gibson Co. woman accused of operating puppy mill appears in court

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A Gibson County woman accused of operating a puppy mill out of her home appeared Tuesday in court.

Sheila Carlton had been given an extension from an earlier court appearance this summer to retain an attorney.

In court Tuesday, Carlton said she could not afford one and requested the court appoint a defense lawyer to her.

Carlton faces 50 counts of animal cruelty.
