18-year-old crashes into Humboldt home while fleeing traffic stop

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — An 18-year-old sustains serious injuries after fleeing from a traffic stop.

According to the Humboldt Police Department, an officer attempted to stop a grey Mitsubishi SUV around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night for a traffic violation.

A press release shared by the department states the SUV fled on 30th Avenue at a high rate of speed, then hit an electric pole and wrecked into the side of a residence on Mitchell Street.

The release says the driver, identified as Braxton Brooks, of Humboldt, sustained serious injuries in the crash, and was airlifted to The Med in Memphis.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to investigate the wreck, the release confirms.

Humboldt Police say although the occupants of the residence were inside the home at the time of the incident, they were not injured.

At this time, police have not confirmed Brooks’ health status or what charges he may be facing.
