Local Toastmasters club members compete in speech contest

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local club is competing for a chance to go to Washington, D.C., in a speech competition.

Toastmasters speech contestThe Toastmasters International Daybreak Club has a chapter in Jackson. It’s a group of people who are working together to improve their speech and leadership skills.

Seven competitors tried to make the judges laugh Thursday in the humorous speech category.

“This time in this world, communication is the key,” said Chad Hart, president of the Jackson chapter. “You have to communicate. You have to actually receive the message and give the message so people can understand what you are talking about.”

The club meets from 6:45 until 7:45 every Thursday morning at the North Side Lions Club. Organizers say people of all ages are welcome to join.
