Volunteers sought for free tax preparation service

Volunteers needed-AARP FOUNDATION TAX AIDE
AARP Foundation Tax Aide provides free federal income tax preparation services at the Jackson Madison County Library, 433 East Layfette St. from 9 am until noon and on Fridays. This service will begin on Friday, Feb. 2 and end on April 12. The counselors are trained to do simple tax returns that do not include rental or farm income. To make an appointment call Jackson Madison county Library at 731-425-8600 during their regular hours 9 am until 5 pm.
The tax preparation team needs volunteers to work the Friday shifts.
Tax counselors prepare the tax returns and do Quality Reviews using a Chrome book computer and TaxSlayer software. This position requires approximately 40 hours of training on basic tax law, INTAKE/INTERVIEW, the use of TaxSlayer software on Chromebook computers, and the quality review process.
Client Facilitators greet and welcome taxpayers/clients to the tax preparation site, check their photo identification and social security cards/statements, help with completing the INTAKE/QUALITY REVIEW form, and organize their tax documents. This position requires approximately 2 hours of training and two open book tests on Volunteer Standards of Conduct and INTAKE/INTERVIEW.
The training is scheduled for Jan. 17, 18, 19, and 23 at the Jackson Madison County Library. This training will include the three open book tests required by the Internal Revenue Service, IRS, and the preparation of several tax returns using Chrome book computers and the TaxSlayer software.
