‘Christmas with Seniors’ event held to combat loneliness this holiday

JACKSON, Tenn. — One event kicked off Monday night in the hopes of combating loneliness this holiday season.

Hub City Connect and The Salvation Army came together to host “Christmas with Seniors” at the Casey Jones Old Country Store in the Hub City.

The event aims to combat holiday loneliness, promote connection, and create a memorable evening for seniors.

Those in attendance enjoyed a buffet-style dinner, Christmas carols, and giveaways, as well as games and activities.

Organizers say they came up with the idea after discovering that many seniors spend the holidays alone.

“We want to be able to bring them together, to feed them, to have a good time, and to meet new people. Because believe it or not, seniors still need friends. We all need somebody with us during these times,” said Hub City Connect Community Leader Deswick Bonds Junior.

There were several speakers at the event as well, including Councilman Johnny Dodd.
