Loraine Thompson King
Loraine Thompson King, age 78, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and wife of the late Morris Franklin King, departed this life Wednesday morning, December 20, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Loraine was born January 7, 1945 in Somerville, the daughter of the late George and Vodie Holly Thompson and Noble and Nannie Smith. She graduated from Fayette County High School and was married April 13, 1963 to Morris Franklin King who preceded her in death on January 15, 2021. Mrs. King was a homemaker throughout her life and was a member of Old Brownsville Chapel near Somerville. Loraine enjoyed baseball and basketball in earlier years. She will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.
Mrs. King is survived by three sons, James F. King (Becky) of Somerville, TN, Ricky D. King of Somerville, TN and Danny L. King (Melissa) of Somerville, TN; three sisters, Sheila Eddington (Dennis), Audrey McQueen (Ricky) and Patricia Kimery (Ralph); four brothers, Aubrey Cannon of Hillville, TN, Ronald Smith (Donna) of Memphis, TN, Ricky Smith (Kathy) of Raleigh, TN and Mike Smith (Rosalinda) of Bartlett, TN; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Maybell White and Ollie York; and two brothers, Earl “Red” Cannon, Jr. and Arice Cannon.
A visitation for Mrs. King will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. The officiating ministers will be Bro. Shane Porter and Bro. Kevin Treadway. Interment will follow in Somerville City Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Richard King, Brandon King, Sr., Daniel King, Blake King, Brent King and Patrick King. Honorary pallbearers will be James King, Jr., Brandon King, Jr., Jodie King and Joshua King.
