Cold Front Coming Thursday, Light Snow Chance on Friday

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

Nice weather will continue tonight and a mostly dry and mild Wednesday looks to be on tap for West Tennessee. A powerful slow moving low pressure system is lingering to the northwest of the Mid South and will track just to our north later this week. That will bring in some colder air by Thursday and a chance for some light snow, around a dusting to some areas in West Tennessee. Catch your New Year’s Eve forecast and the latest on what you could see as far as snow chances where you live, coming up here.

TONIGHT:

The winds will be light tonight and are shifting back to the south. That helped warm us up to around 50° today. Some clouds will move in late tonight into Wednesday morning but the mostly clear skies to kick off the night will allow temperatures to fall down to around freezing again tonight. We are not expecting any rain or snow tonight but shower chances will be increasing as the week progresses.

WEDNESDAY:

A low pressure system will continue to spin just to our northwest and the will usher in plenty of clouds and a few shower chances during the day. Temperatures will be too warm for a wintry mix on Wednesday with highs reaching the low to mid 50s. Chances for rain are not great and sit at 20% with the chances the best for areas north of Madison county. The winds will be light and come out of the southeast most of the day. Wednesday night lows will again fall down to the low 30s.

THURSDAY:

We are expecting a few showers during the day on Thursday. Depending on the timing of the showers a few flurries cannot be ruled out or a brief wintry mix as a front will move through. Chances for those showers are only 30% so most of us will not see much of anything at all. We will likely encounter a cloudy or mostly cloudy day though and it will be blustery as the cold front passes. Highs on Thursday will be cold and only reach the low 40s. The winds will come out of the northwest most of the day around 10 MPH. Thursday night will be chilly again falling back down to the low 30s again.

FRIDAY:

The best shot for some light snow this week will come early in the day on Friday on the backside of a low pressure system and cold front. The best chance for a dusting of snow will be areas north and east of Jackson although some light snow looks possible in the Hub City as well Friday morning.

The winds will start out of the northwest and shift to the west as the day goes on. Highs on Friday will be cold and might not even hit 40°. Friday night lows will fall down to around 30°. We are expecting a mostly cloudy day on Friday but the clouds may try to clear out overnight. If they do clear, some 20s will be likely Saturday morning.

THE WEEKEND:

We are looking at a pretty quiet but cool weekend leading up to New Year’s Eve. The winds will shift back to the southwest on Saturday helping to warm us back up to the upper 40s. We are also expecting mostly sunny skies on Saturday but that could lead to a chilly night Saturday night with lows falling down to around 30°. Sunday highs will reach back into the low 50s but we should see a few more clouds during the day on Sunday as well. Temperatures will be in the 30s for those of you staying out late celebrating in the new year on Sunday night. The weekend forecast looks dry as of now but on New Year’s Day, a system is going to pass to our south and may look to impact the Mid South. We will be keeping a close eye on it as the week goes on.

FINAL THOUGHT:

We could see our first snow of the season in West Tennessee later this week but it does not appear like it is going to have any major travel issues for those of you planning on traveling to our from the Mid South this week. A dusting or a quarter of an inch of snow cannot be ruled out, especially areas close to Kentucky Lake Friday morning. We are expecting a cold start to the new year as well.
